The Journey Begins
We set off on a well-marked trail. It took us through tall pine trees and winding paths. Sunlight streamed through the canopy, creating a beautiful backdrop. Jet was in his element—nose to the ground, tail wagging—stopping every few minutes to investigate something new. The terrain was largely firm underfoot, with some muddy patches (Jet’s personal favourite part of any walk!).
Serenity in Nature
One of the best things about this route is its quiet and serene nature. Unlike some of the busier walking spots, this trail allowed us to soak in nature. The only sounds we heard were birdsong and the occasional rustle in the undergrowth, keeping us company.
Another highlight of this walk is the lovely stream that runs alongside part of the trail. The water is not too deep, making it the perfect spot for dogs to paddle and cool off—especially on warmer days. Jet wasted no time splashing around and enjoying a refreshing dip before we continued our adventure!
Dog-Friendly Highlights
This route is perfect for dog owners seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure. Here are some reasons why Jet gives it his paw of approval:
Plenty of space to roam: Wide paths and open clearings offer excellent running and exploring opportunities.
Shady woodland: Keeps both you and your pup cool on warmer days.
Minimal road exposure: This ensures a safe and enjoyable experience for dogs off-lead.
A variety of scents and sights: Perfect for curious pups who love to sniff their way through a walk!
A dog-friendly stream: Great for dogs who love to paddle or need a quick cool-down.

Essential Tips for Your Visit
Stay Hydrated: Bring water for both you and your pup, especially if it’s a warm day.
Wear Sturdy Footwear: Some areas can get muddy, so sturdy footwear is recommended.
Watch for Wildlife: Keep an eye out for local wildlife—Jet was particularly interested in a few squirrels darting through the trees!
Practice Responsible Pet Ownership: Always clean up after your furry friend.
The Perfect Dog Walk
Before heading back, we took a moment to reflect on our experience. The lush greenery and the sound of the stream made this walk memorable. For anyone looking for a peaceful escape in nature with their furry friend, Verwood is a hidden gem. It’s an excellent alternative to the busier New Forest trails.
Final Thoughts
Verwood proved to be a fantastic spot for a peaceful yet engaging walk. I’ll definitely be adding it to our regular walking spots. If you’re staying at The Ashleigh and looking for a great dog-friendly walk, I highly recommend giving this one a try! With so much to explore, it’s a memory-making opportunity for you and your pup. One adventure at a time!
