If you're planning a coastal getaway with your dog, Bournemouth remains one of the UK's most popular destinations for dog owners.
With miles of coastline, beautiful walks and plenty of dog friendly cafés nearby, it's easy to see why so many guests choose to visit with their four legged companions each year.
However, beach restrictions do apply during the summer months, so it's important to know where dogs are welcome before heading out for the day.

Dog Friendly Beaches in Bournemouth During Summer
From 1 May to 30 September, dogs are not permitted on Bournemouth's Blue Flag and Seaside Award beaches. However, there are still several areas where dogs are welcome all year round.
Some of the most popular dog friendly beach areas include:
• Durley Chine
• Middle Chine
• Hengistbury Head
• Fisherman's Walk to Southbourne
• Alum Chine and Branksome Dene areas
These sections provide plenty of space for walks, paddles and games while still allowing you to enjoy Bournemouth's famous coastline.
Winter Beach Walks
From 1 October to 30 April, dogs are welcome across all Bournemouth beaches, making winter one of our favourite times of year for coastal walks.
The beaches are quieter, parking is often easier and there's plenty of room for dogs to run and explore.
Our Favourite Nearby Dog Friendly Beaches
While Bournemouth offers excellent options, there are also several fantastic beaches nearby worth visiting:
Hengistbury Head
A favourite with many of our guests thanks to its beautiful coastal scenery, nature reserve and long walking routes.

Mudeford Sandbank
A great choice for dogs who love running along wide open stretches of sand. Dogs are welcome all year round.

Branksome Dene
Popular with local dog owners and ideal if you're looking for a quieter beach experience.

Highcliffe Beach
A beautiful stretch of coastline with designated dog friendly areas throughout the year.

Things to Remember
Before visiting any beach with your dog, we always recommend:
• Bringing fresh water during warmer weather
• Keeping dogs on leads where required
• Checking local signage for seasonal restrictions
• Cleaning up after your dog
• Avoiding the hottest parts of the day during summer
